Food Access, SNAP, Senior Coupons, School Coins and Double SNAP
SNAP and the Double SNAP Dollar Program
Farm Hands works with the Columbia Falls Community Market and the Whitefish Downtown Farmers Market to provide a $10 incentive – Double SNAP Dollars – to shop for fruits and vegetables per market to each SNAP recipient. This opportunity at both markets has the potential to add roughly $400 a summer to a SNAP recipients food budget and it is Dollar spent locally with the Flathead Valley Farmers!
Senior Citizen Coupon Booklets are available for the 2017 market season for use at the Whitefish Farmers Market and the Columbia Falls Community Market. Stop at the SNAP booth at the entry to the each market to pick up your booklet. Senior coupons booklets contain vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables.
Both SNAP and Senior Coupon program supply healthy food to the people of our community and in turn provide economic support to local food producers. We are working on making our community aware of the advantages of shopping at the Farmer’s Market.
School Coins Program
Farm Hands, with the generous support of the Whitefish Community Foundation, has started our School Coin Program. In 2016 we distributed 670 $5 Market Coins to Muldown Elementary Students! In 2017 we plan to distribute Coins again to Muldown Students and in addition we will give coins to the Glacier Gateway Students in Columbia Falls!
